Hydrocodone is a narcotic, while acetaminophen is a mild painkiller. Combined, they belong to a class of drugs called narcotic analgesic, which works by blocking certain nerve cell receptors in the brain. It is used to treat back pain; pain; rheumatoid arthritis; cough and many others. It relieves moderate to severe pain. This pill is white, capsule-shaped with an imprint “IP 110.”

Warnings

Before taking this medicine, it is important to tell your doctor if you have any allergies not only to hydrocodone and acetaminophen but to other medicines; if you are taking other medicines at the moment; and if you have other illness or diseases especially liver or kidney disease. Allergic reactions are hives; difficulty breathing; and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Immediately call the doctor if this happens. It is also important to inform the doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Hydrocodone and acetaminophen is harmful to the baby and the unborn child. Avoid using if you are breastfeeding as this passes thru breast milk and is harmful to the nursing baby.

Hydrocodone is addictive.  Always keep in a secure place to avoid theft, use, and misuse by other people. Use only as directed and follow prescription labels.  Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, sweating, pinpoint pupils, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), confusion, cold and clammy skin, muscle weakness, fainting, weak pulse, slow heart rate, coma, blue lips, shallow breathing, or no breathing. In case this happens, immediately seek emergency help.

Ask your doctor how the medicine should be taken. Increase water intake to 6 or 8 glasses a day and increase fiber in diet. This medicine causes constipation. Avoid use of laxative or stool softener without asking your doctor. Do not use for later or for other conditions without doctors’ advice. Do not immediately stop taking acetaminophen and hydrocodone as this may cause serious side effects and withdrawal symptoms. Immediately call the doctor with these adverse effects: shallow breathing, slow heartbeat; feeling light-headed, fainting; confusion, fear, unusual thoughts or behavior; seizure (convulsions); problems with urination; or nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). Less serious side effects are the following: feeling anxious, dizzy, or drowsy; mild nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, constipation; headache, mood changes; blurred vision; ringing in your ears; or dry mouth. Talk to your doctor about unusual symptoms or those that are especially bothersome.

Taking this medication with alcohol or other drugs can cause drowsiness or breathing problems. Avoid driving or activities that require you to be alert and awake. Avoid taking with drugs that interact with acetaminophen or hydrocodone. Always inform the doctor or dentist if you are going to undergo surgery and if you need to take other medications.

Storage

Store acetaminophen and hydrocodone at room temperature away from moisture and heat, away from children and pets. Check the product package for instructions on how to store your brand, or ask your pharmacist. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.
