Generic Name: Acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride 325 mg / 10 mg

Overview

Oxycodone is an opioid pain medication (narcotic). Opioids work by binding to opioid receptors in the brain, spinal cord, and other areas of the body, thereby reducing feelings of pain.

Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of oxycodone. They help form prostaglandins, which are pain- and inflammation-mediating signaling molecules thereby reducing both fever and inflammation.

A combination of both is used to treat moderate to severe pain.

This pill is white, elliptical/oval shaped with an imprint “IP 204,” and belongs to the drug class narcotic analgesic combinations.

Side Effects

Common side effects include:

• headache, drowsiness, tiredness;
• nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation;
• blurred vision; or
• dry mouth.

Serious side effects include:

• shallow breathing, slow heartbeat;
• feeling light-headed, fainting;
• confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior;
• seizure (convulsions);
• problems with urination; or
• nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

This is not a complete list of side effects. Immediately call the doctor with serious side effects or for symptoms not listed above and if it causes you to feel unusual of uncomfortable.

It is rarely that acetaminophen causes severe skin reaction (skin redness or rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling) even if you have not had this condition before, however, if it does occur, it is fatal and needs immediate attention.

Emergency medical help should be sought if your experience these allergic reactions: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Patient Information

Do not double dose in case of a missed dose. It is likely that you will miss a dose since this is a pain medication but in case this happens, skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose.

Overdose is fatal especially to children and for those using the medicine without prescription. Overdose symptoms may include slow breathing and heart rate, severe drowsiness, muscle weakness, cold and clammy skin, pinpoint pupils, and fainting. Initial symptoms of acetaminophen overdose include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, sweating, and confusion or weakness. Immediately call the doctor if you have these symptoms.

This medicine can slow or stop your breathing, and may be habit-forming. Take only as prescribed and follow directions.

Misuse of this medicine can cause fatal side effects, addiction, overdose, and death.

Avoid use of this medication if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant and breastfeeding. Acetaminophen and oxycodone is harmful to the unborn child and nursing infant.

Overdose of this medicine can cause liver damage or death.

Do not take with alcohol or with drugs that cause drowsiness or slows breathing.

Inform your doctor the following: allergies to acetaminophen and other medicines, some other allergies, medical history (past and present illnesses), medicines taken (prescription or non-prescription drugs, herbal medicines, etc.) to avoid drug interaction and fatal side effects.

Special attention should be given to children, elderly, severely ill, malnourished, or otherwise debilitated. These people are more likely to have breathing problems when taking this medicine.

Dispose properly if no longer in use and store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep this medicine away from pets, children, and from people to whom this medicine is not prescribed.
