Generic Name: Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone 325 mg / 10 mg

M367 is an imprint of a white, capsule-shaped pill manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. It belongs to the drug class narcotic analgesic combinations and is used to treat back pain, pain, rheumatoid arthritis, cough, and many more.

Acetaminophen/Hydrocodone is a combination of opioid (narcotic) pain reliever (hydrocodone) and a non-opioid pain reliever (acetaminophen). Hydrocodone binds to specific receptors known as opioid receptors that block pain signals on their way to the brain and changes how your body feels and responds to pain. Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever and a fever reducer at the same time which enhances effects of hydrocodone. This drug combination is effective at relieving moderate to severe pain.

Dosage

This medicine is available in tablet and oral solution forms, as well as cost-saving generic versions.

This product is not recommended for use in children younger than 6 years due to an increased risk of serious side effects such as slow/shallow breathing.

Response and Effectiveness

Peak concentrations are usually reached within 1.5 hours. Duration of effect varies among individuals, but, in general, may last from 4 to 6 hours.

Side Effects and Patient Instructions

Generally, older adults, children, and people with certain medical conditions such as liver or kidney problems, heart disease, diabetes, seizures or people who take other medications are more at risk of developing a wider range of side effects.

Common side effects may manifest as nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness or drowsiness. Some people may not experience these symptoms but if you feel they are bothersome or if you feel other signs that worry you, call your doctor.

• Rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to prevent lightheadedness or dizziness.
• This medicine may be taken with or without food. Take with food in case you feel nauseated and lie down 1 to 2 hours with little head movement after taking this medicine.
• Avoid use of this drug with alcohol to prevent fatal side effects and do not drive or operate machinery or do activities that are risky as this medicine causes you to be drowsy and impairs one’s thinking and reactions.
• Eat adequate fiber, exercise, and drink plenty of water to avoid constipation. Do not use laxatives or stool softeners without your doctor’s advice.

Many people do not experience serious side effects; however, get help in case you experience mental/mood changes (such as agitation, confusion, hallucinations), stomach/abdominal pain, difficulty urinating, and signs of your adrenal glands not working well (such as loss of appetite, unusual tiredness, weight loss).

• Dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and weight in children. Take the medication as prescribed. Do not increase/decrease the dose without your doctor’s advice.
• This medication may cause withdrawal symptoms such as restlessness, watery eyes, runny nose, nausea, sweating, muscle aches. Report these signs to your doctor right away.
• Seek emergency help in case of an overdose. Symptoms include: extreme drowsiness, sweating, pinpoint pupils, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), confusion, cold and clammy skin, muscle weakness, fainting, weak pulse, slow heart rate, coma, blue lips, and shallow breathing, or no breathing.
• Avoid misuse. This drug is habit-forming, addictive, and can cause fatal side effects or even death. Store in a safe place away from pets, children, and others.
• Inform the doctor your medical history and the medicines taken to avoid drug interactions and fatal side effects.
• Inform the doctor/dentist you are using this medicine before undergoing other treatments, surgery, or dental extraction.
• Children and older adults are sensitive to the side effects of this drug especially shallow/slow breathing.
• Caution with use among elderly to avoid falls and accidents. This medicine causes drowsiness, dizziness, and confusion.
• Inform the doctor before use of this medicine when planning to get pregnant or during pregnancy and lactation.
• Discard properly unused or expired medicines and store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Pain medications work best at the first sign of pain. If you wait for the pain to get worse, the medicine might not work. Discuss with your doctor other ways to reduce side effects and the risks and benefits involved with the use of this medicine.
