 The pill is also known as Lorazepam 1 mg and belongs to the drug classes benzodiazepine anticonvulsants, benzodiazepines, miscellaneous antiemetics. It is used to treat anxiety disorders and affects chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people with anxiety.

Anxiety disorders are a group of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear. Anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a fast heart rate and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, panic disorder, and selective mutism. The disorder differs by what results in the symptoms. People often have more than one anxiety disorder.

The cause of anxiety disorders is a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Risk factors include a history of child abuse, family history of mental disorders, and poverty. Anxiety disorders often occur with other mental disorders, particularly major depressive disorder, personality disorder, and substance use disorder.

Without treatment, anxiety disorders tend to remain. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, counseling, and medications. Counseling is typically with a type of cognitive behavioral therapy. Medications, such as antidepressants or beta blockers, may improve symptoms. Lorazepam 1 mg is one of the choice medications. It is used in the treatment of anxiety; insomnia; panic disorder; cervical dystonia; borderline personality disorder, and many others.

Side Effects

 Immediately call the doctor with these serious side effects:

• confusion, depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
• hyperactivity, agitation, hostility;
• hallucinations; or
• feeling light-headed, fainting.

Less serious side effects include:

• drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness;
• blurred vision;
• sleep problems (insomnia);
• muscle weakness, lack of balance or coordination;
• amnesia or forgetfulness, trouble concentrating;
• nausea, vomiting, constipation;
• appetite changes; or
• skin rash.

Get emergency help with these signs of allergic reactions:

• drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness;
• blurred vision;
• sleep problems (insomnia);
• muscle weakness, lack of balance or coordination;
• amnesia or forgetfulness, trouble concentrating;
• nausea, vomiting, constipation;
• appetite changes; or
• skin rash.

Important information about lorazepam

• Do not use this medication if you are allergic to lorazepam or to other benzodiazepines.
• Do not use lorazepam if you are planning to get pregnant, are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Inform the doctor of any medications currently taken including herbal medicines, vitamins and other medications prescribed by other Doctors to avoid drug interactions.
• Inform of any past and present medical conditions such as glaucoma, kidney or liver disease, or a history of depression, suicidal thoughts, or addiction to drugs or alcohol.
• Do not drink alcohol and avoid driving or any activities which require alertness while taking the medication as it increases effects of alcohol and causes sleepiness.
• It should only be used by the person it was prescribed for. Lorazepam is habit-forming.
• It is dangerous to purchase via the internet or from vendors outside United States. Medications from internet sales may contain dangerous ingredients, or may not be distributed by a licensed pharmacy.
• Accidental falls are common in older adults. Caution with use as this may cause falls and accidental injuries.
• Store in a secure place. Do not give this medication to a child younger than 12 years old.
• Lorazepam should be used for only a short time. Do not take this medication for longer than 4 months without your doctor’s advice.
