Stress is an inevitable result of bombardment but there are ways to relieve stress that don’t revolve around eating things; like your favorite treats for example.

People with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often struggle with frequent and intense symptoms of anxiety. These strong symptoms of anxiety often lead people with PTSD to rely on unhealthy ways of coping, such as through drug or alcohol use. Fortunately, there are a number of healthy ways of coping with anxiety and also PTSD Counseling. These strategies may help reduce the intensity of anxiety, lessen its frequency, and/or make it more tolerable.

Walks in Nature (Leisure)

Going for walks in a nice, serene location is sure to bring stress levels down. Local parks with aesthetically pleasing landscapes such as greenery, sculptures and water works are sure to calm you down. The chirping of birds will distract you from your problems while the beautiful colors of fluttering butterflies and pretty flowers are sure to take you to a new found happy place.

Meditation

There are loads a meditation stress relieving techniques out there from which to choose that were designed specifically for reducing stress levels. One of the many key components of meditation involves controlled breathing. Controlling one’s breathing is said to give the person better control over their emotions. Having control over your emotions translates into less stress.

Exercise and other Strenuous Activities

Walking was mentioned earlier however that particular form was for leisure; also known as at your own pace. Another form of walking for stress relief is power walking; pushing your limits. Performing strenuous activities like weight training, aerobics, jogging, running, swimming and so many others are said to do the trick. Some can relieve stress from participating in calm activities while others need a more…heavy duty approach. Sweating with each punch and kick can feel gratifying. Its like you’re throwing your stress across the room or better yet, showing your stress who’s boss.

Reading

It doesn’t matter the type of reading material as long as its something you don’t mind reading. Reading is a good distraction device and can have you feeling better in no time. You can read magazines, novels, comics or even the back of your favorite cereal box. Reading is like a form of escapism that can come in handy especially if you’re looking to avoid anger management courses. The best part about this technique is that you’re not restricted to a specific location. You can read outside in your yard, at the beach, at the park, in a boat or where ever else you fancy.

Art in General

This particular technique encompasses a variety of approaches. Creating art is a nice outlet for getting rid of stress because your stress soon becomes fuel for your work. Painting, drawing, crafting, sculpting, sewing and so on are considered ideal because they involve hands-on interaction. Viewing art is another technique and is a great way to distract yourself from your current problem. This is doable at a museum, a park, botanical garden or store.

Brain Teasers

Getting engaged in an activity that gets the gears turning is sure to dissipate your stress. They don’t have to be genuine brain teasers per se; just anything that involves critical thinking and memory. Crossword puzzles, sudoku, solitaire (any and all forms), chess, Scrabble-like games along with some others. Since technology has been incorporated into our daily lives, you are bound to find some creative sources pre-installed on your computing device and online via designated gaming sites.
